Indian-Origin CEO Shares Scary Shooting Story in San Francisco

Imagine walking back to your hotel late at night and suddenly hearing loud bangs. That’s what happened to Deep Prasad, an Indian-origin CEO, in San Francisco. He says someone shot at him not once, but twice! This scary moment happened early Sunday morning, around 3:30-4:00 a.m., near his hotel. Deep, who lives in Toronto, Canada, was just coming back from a beach when it all went down.

Deep shared his story on X, a social media app. He said after the first shot, the bad guys chased him all the way to his hotel. He ran inside and asked a hotel worker to come out with him. That’s when the second shot happened. Deep saw the bullet hit something, and the hotel worker even saw the gun—a Glock, he said. “I’m still shaking,” Deep wrote. Can you imagine how freaked out he must have been?

But here’s the weird part: the San Francisco Police thought it was just fireworks, not a real gun. Deep wasn’t happy about that. He said they didn’t even try to figure out what really happened, which he thinks is dangerous. “This city is not safe,” he posted. “I’ve never had anything like this happen in 30 years.”

Later, Deep said maybe it could’ve been fireworks, not bullets. Someone told him the bad guys might have thrown firecrackers to scare him. He’s okay with being wrong if the police can prove it. They’ve asked the hotel for video footage to check it out. Still, Deep trusts what he and the hotel worker saw—a gun, not fireworks.

This Indian-origin CEO runs a company called Quantum Generative Materials. He’s not used to this kind of danger, and it left him pretty shaken up. San Francisco might be a cool place to visit, but after this, Deep thinks it’s risky. What do you think—would you feel safe walking around there at night?
